MAUSOLEUMS

Calvary Mausoleum – Los Angeles, CA

The Calvary Mausoleum, designed by J. Stuart Todd, Architects, was completed two months ahead of schedule.

This was a remarkable achievement considering the four floor high mausoleum contains 12,584 casket spaces and 5,368 niche spaces. This project effectively employed high capacity production techniques. It is difficult to visualize the size of the project as one and one-half stories are located underground.

The mission style architecture is evident through the use of red clay roof tiles and synthetic texture. As visitors stroll through the building, they are struck by the elegant simplicity of the design and the attention to small details such as the use of glass blocks in the floors and the selective use of granite veneer panels, all surrounding an open air courtyard with fountains.
